Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have the right setup?
- Is my IP Phone getting an IP address?
- Which ports do I need to enable for SIP if I have a firewall router?
1. Do I have the right setup?
Check to see if you have the right setup i.e. Have your ADSL connection from the telephone point to a modem and to a router or just to your modem router depending on your equipment.
Make sure you have plugged the Ethernet cable from the router to the LAN port of the Noodle phone ( for Grandstream Budge Tone - 100) and the WAN port for a Grandstream 486. Also remember to use the power supply.
2. Is my IP Phone getting an IP address?
If your IP phone is getting an IP address and is connected to the internet, it should show the correct Time and Date.
If your phone is not getting the correct time and date then follow this steps:
First of all you need to know how your router gives out IP addresses, is it dynamic or static?
If your router uses dynamic IP addresses press the menu button on the Noodle phone is should say DHCP on. If DHCP is off, you need to press the menu button, under the option 1 which is for the DHCP press the menu button again the “1” disappears and use the up and down key to set DHCP to On. Press the menu again to save the change. Check to see if changes were saved by pressing the menu button.
For Routers using Static Private or Public IP Addresses
If DHCP is on, you need to press the menu button, under the option 1 which is for the DHCP press the menu button again the “1” disappears and use the up and down key to set DHCP to Off. Press the menu again to save the change. Check to see if changes were saved by pressing the menu button.
You then need to assign a static private IP address to the Phone. Using command prompt type:
ipconfig
(The command prompt can be found by clicking the start menu and clicking the run. A window opens type cmd. This will open the command prompt.)
The ipconfig shows the configuration of the PC which need to be applied to the Noodle phone if they are using the same router. Find an IP address which is not being used and assign to your noodle phone. This can be done by pressing the menu button scrolling down to 2 in the menu which is the IP address. Press menu again and enter the IP address including the leading zeroes eg. 172.016.000.028 and press the menu to save. Enter the subnet mask which is 3 in the menu en 255.255.000.000 and press menu to save. Menu 4 is the router or the default gateway in the router. Enter the router or default IP eg. 172.016.000.001. and press menu to save.
Next is the dns which is option 5 enter and press menu to save.
Reboot phone after and verify if you get the correct date and time.
For a Grandstream adapter 486 or 286, ensure you have the right setup from FAQ 1. connect Ethernet cable from the router to the WAN port. Connect another Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the 486 into the LAN of your PC. On the web browser on the PC type 192.168.2.1 this will bring you to the admin page of the adapter. The password is Admin. On entering the page you can apply the static settings using the IPconfig from your PC.
3. Which ports do I need to enable for SIP if I have a firewall router?
The following ports need to be enabled for SIP services they are:
a. The local SIP port: 5060
b. Local RTP port: 1024 – 65535
Some routers require you to apply the ports opened to the device and a reboot is normally required to take into effect.
